TravelYaari.com Launches "Book Your Seat Next to Lady" Feature

Travelyaari.com, a bus booking portal launches "Book your seat next to lady" feature in their online booking system. This system shows which seats are taken up by ladies and you can choose seats next to them.

What is this feature all about?

When you go for online bus ticket booking system on Travelyaari.com , you will taken to seat selection after you choose the route of your travel. During seat selection, you will be shown the information like which seats are available, which seats are booked but they added another feature into it that is Seats booked by ladies.  It can be seen in the below picture:

In this way, you can choose a seat next to a lady!

Privacy Concerns:

I am sure, this feature wont be loved by lady customers and they will ignore booking at this website. Afterall, this is matter of their privacy and they would surely not let travellers know where they have booked their seat.

Men will be attracted to this booking site due to this feature and it seems, their target customers are largely male and thereby they don't see anything wrong in putting up the details of seat booked by ladies.

What we think!

Online bookings, are largely done by male members of the family and female members tend not to go for online bookings. Looking at this scenario, travelyaari.com launched this feature to attract those male customers to book at their website. But we do not like this feature as this is the question of the privacy of female travellers.

What do you think?

[Update]:Clarification from Co-Founder of Travelyaari.com:

This is not a feature by Travelyaari.com to promote sexist behavior. Whether a seat is booked by a Male/Female passenger is information that bus operators maintain in order to ensure safety/comfort of female passengers. As per policy of some bus operators, if a customer tries to book a seat next to the opposite sex they don't allow it unless travelling together, and so the booking is not allowed. This info on the website is to inform customers why their booking attempt is not allowed, so they can try to book a different seat. The goal is more transparency and information for the customer, and not to be sexist or invade on their privacy.

But given that this implementation has raised concerns and the messaging hasn't come through clearly, we'll definitely work on improving the flow so as to not make our customers uncomfortable. We appreciate the feedback and hope this clears the air. - Arjun Rao

  4. This is not a feature and is not specific to this booking site. There are other similar sites which offer online reservation and provide info about the booked seat.
The feature is useful when Ladies travel alone so that they can book their seats next to another lady.

  5. Yes, but this was a good concept which lost its meaning in translation. Many bus operators have special women reserved seats and dont allow men to select seat next to a women. :)
