HOW TO : File RTI Application Online in 10 Minutes for Rs.10

Filing RTI may be a tedious job and it will consume lot of time and money (Transportation costs, stationary costs etc) but Thankfully, now you can file RTI online, quickly and almost free! Below are the steps to file RTI online within 10 minutes.

1) Register with Official RTI Website


Visit Official RTI website to file online application which will cost you Rs.10 and not more than just 10 minutes of your time.

Visit : www.rtionline.gov.in




While filling above information, make sure all your details are true especially your mobile number and Email address because you will be receiving confirmation emails and alerts messages. Try to maintain correct information on the above form as it is Official website and you should not fake your identity in order to bring our information.

 2. Submit your RTI Query


After registering and validating your user credentials, you can head over to "Submit Request" section Things to take care in this section are:

  • As per information you provided during signup, data will be pre populated like your address, phone number, name etc.

  • Select right department, ministry or body against whom you are filing RTI

  • Keep your query ready along with necessary documents which you can attach as well while filing RTI


 3. Pay Rs.10 Fee for RTI


Your request will not be processed unless you pay the fee associated with RTI application filing which is just Rs.10. You can pay via Internet banking, debit card or credit card.


 4. Congrats! You are done.


Your RTI Application is successfully filed and you will receive the acknowledgement receipt of the same which you will get via SMS and email (That's why, give correct details during user- registration). The receipt may look like below:



Whats next?


Wait! Generally it takes 30-45 days to get answer to your query. You will be notified via SMS/Email about the response you get and you can come online at the website, login with credentials you filed RTI with and check the response. You can also regularly follow up the status of your application by clicking on "View Status" tab.
